アフリカでは子供のHIV検査は行わないほうがいい。なぜならHIVポジティブだとわかると親はもうその子にミルクを与えない。つまり検査をすると子供はエイズで死ぬ前に餓死させられる。

HIVポジティブの人に治療薬を渡したら、家族はその薬を密売人に売り払って食料費にあてる。だから薬は家に持ち帰らせず、必ずその場で飲ませないといけない。

有為で有能な少女がいて学校に行きたいというから教育費を援助することになった。親に渡すと教育費に使わない可能性があるので、学校に直接払い込んだ。そしたら・・学校の先生がその学費を引き出していなくなった。

貧しい子供に無料でいきわたるように、抗生物質などの薬を各地の病院に配布する医療援助は意味がない。そんなことしても医者はその薬を、金持ちの患者に高額で売って代金をポケットにいれ、貧しい人には相変わらず「お金がないと薬は手に入らないものなのですよ」といい続ける。

井戸を援助して貰った。みんなでそれを飲料に使えば何十年も伝染病を防げるのに、結局は井戸の部品を売り払ってその日の夕食代に充ててしまうケースが続出する。
